GUTEN TAG! (That is German for Good day!)
That's the BAHNHOF (train station) of dresden and isn't it pretty? I like how rustic and old it is and how much my red downjacket stood out against the background ;)
(talking about that, everyone couldn't stop laughing at my red downjacket, red bag and pink shoes!!
BUT I DONT CARE. HAHAHA I like being different, black is so boring, OKAY maybe i overdid it a little, shouldn't have worn them all together....oh did i mention my collection of red bags? okay maybe another time.....)

As the title suggests, Dresden is really the town with the oldest Christmas market!! Therefore, the 4 of us continued our journey through Germany and thought it was very timely to stop at Dresden for Christmas eve and Christmas day but little did we know that public holidays, especially Christmas in Europe (except for some big cities like London), aren't exactly good days for traveling because the streets turn out like GHOST TOWNS.

After walking for miles and miles, we finally found a restaurant that was open!! Don't be deceived by the amount of light, it was winter then, the sun sets really early! I think it was only dinner time, prolly 6 or 7pm.

The only problem was..... the menu was in German and  the waitress could hardly speak English and none of us, for the love of currywurst and beer, could speak/read German. There were some words that were kinda international, like baguette and spaghetti and carbonara..... BUT MOST WEREN'T. After only 3 or 4 days in Germany, we only knew "shinken" is "ham", "champigons" is "mushrooms", "pomme fritte" is "fries", we then proceeded onto a game of guessing and trying our luck! Pretty fun actually, to not know what you have ordered, LIKE A SURPRISE!! ;)

OOH, HOT CHOCOLATE is kinda universal ;) I think it is SHOKOLATE or something in German, sounds pretty alike.

YX's Spinach omelette with Salmon, well done for someone who doesn't eat carbs!

My cheesy creamy chicken which tasted not bad actually! I had absolutely no idea what i ordered, all i knew was that it was gonna be some meat.
Ivie had some fried chicken cutlet and ZL had carbonara, the safest choice! Overall, all our food was edible and not too bad, quite a good experience i would say! I love the ambiance of the restaurant, totally in a festive mood!

awwwwwwwww another cute lil kid ;) Sorry it's kinda blur but the street lights, like the people on festive holiday, aren't exactly doing their job.
The next day was christmas day and true enough, nothing much was open :( Nevertheless, we tried to wonder around the small little town on our own!

cool graffitti

One thing about the Germans, they REALLY LOVE THEIR MEAT!! There's even a meat stall in the train station!

Here marks the start of the Christmas market!

Remnants of autumn

Oh look, a Ferris wheel at the carnival!

The small town pretty much looks like this, these weathered and brown european style buildings paints the town varying shades of brown.

I really like the traffic lights in Germany, cmon, THEY ARE SO CUTE!! Check out the red man! I promise you the green man is just as cute! I even bought a postcard on it ;)

OH YAY FINALLY!!! WE ARE HERE!!! BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT IT'S ALREADY CLOSED!!!! Little did we know that Christmas markets only open a month before Christmas and end by noon on Christmas eve :(

We tried to comfort ourselves by getting lost in the maze of red roofs and taking pictures of the beautifully decorated stalls! I must say that Dresden has the most elaborated designs for their stalls compared to Munich and Berlin. The amount of effort they put in is applaudable ;)

That's right, what's a christmas market without Gluhwein!! ;)

No idea what "ULMIK" means, could be just a brand, but this is cute!

SNOW WHITE AND THE 7 DWARFS!!

Princess and the frog!

PRETTY, ISN'T IT?? EFFORT 100% :D

Horse carriages like these appear all over europe for any rich tourist who's looking for a medieval experience ;)

This is the famous STOLLEN!! No, it's not stolen but it's like a traditional fruit cake topped with icing sugar! Really yummy, one of the best fruit cakes (if not the best) I've ever had!!

Another cute kid!! ahahaha somehow they just look v cute all wrapped up in their winter jackets!

OMG GUESS WHAT, ONE CHRISTMAS MARKET WAS OPENED!!!

ZL giving a verdict of the kinderpusch (the non-alcoholic version of Gluhwein) The couple swore that they had better ones in Switzerland.

CURRYWURST!!! This version is kinda like sausage soaked in Macdonald's curry sauce and topped with curry powder! This is probably not what it's supposed to be? I like the one in Berlin more :D

Yet another church

We discovered cheap ice cream ;) YX was going to have another one but the shop was closed when we went back!

LUNCH TIME ;)

What's a meal in Germany without a glass of beer?

Lesson learnt: herring on the menu is usually cold and smoked (read: salty)

they were smart, they ordered some other fish and it was HOT.
Because it was Xmas day, most of the stalls weren't open so we decided to head back to our cosy little hostel earlier ;)

I can't remember what he was laughing/crying about

THIS WAS OUR DINNER ;)

Siah was teaching us how to cook... NAH, we were just skyping him!!

Really simple, ready made food huh!! It was the first meal i cooked out of singapore, cut me some slack ok? ahahaha. Cmon, I did improve over the months right? :P

Dresden is really just a small town, I would recommend only going there during Christmas season :P One day in this town would suffice and no internal transport is needed!
