If the path leading to your destination is long and winding, why don't you just take a step back and enjoy the journey?

Getting to enjoy architecture resembling those I see in Harry Potter films has always been a dream of mine! I know Cambridge wasn't the source of inspiration for the Harry Potter movies' set, it still feels awesome to just be in an old town. Furthermore, why would one give up a chance to visit one of the most prestigious  varsities in the world? Simply breathing in the Cambridge air makes one smarter already! hahahaha

My journey in England continues with the boys (YX/BX, Alex, Finian, YI, FZ) and IV (but she went off to meet her friend so she didn't join us that day). I was supposed to meet my friend who studies in Cambridge (zy) but he flew off to Greece for a holiday on the day that i reached Cambridge. However, fortunately, Finian was also meeting his good friend, Liu Yun (who studies at Cambridge too) who became our tour guide for the day :)

We were all starving from the long bus ride from Liverpool so the first stop was naturally to satisfy our growling stomachs! I think this is some roasted duck wrap? Pretty tasty from what I remembered!

Local chapel/church

Cherry Blossoms! Yes, it was already spring in UK (or at least for other parts of Europe outside of Scandinavia?) I was excited to see some flowers for once! hahahah it was relatively warm, 15deg? It was funny how I still had to return to a subzero Oulu and experience winter again. I remember dreading a bit (maybe because I took the snow for granted) but now I miss it so much :(

I walked past the school of engineering! :)

Their school crest

Apparently in the past this alley could only be used for horse carriages and it's interesting how this signboard still remains intact until today

The favourite pastime of people living in Cambridge is Punting! The university students love to take a punt each and race down the river, drunk or not, topless or not ;) LY took us to the river and introduced this interesting sport to us ;)

FZ looking stunned

YI sitting like a boss

LY (the pro) showing us how to manoeuvre the boat!

This is the famous mathematica bridge!

ahhhhh.... row row row your boat gently down the stream....... life's a pleasure when people do it for you :P

love how the flowers blend in so well with the surroundings! They add so much life to the dull coloured buildings too!

Apparently there is this punting race, organised by the students every now and then, which requires groups of students to race down the river in their little boats. Whenever a bridge is encountered, one member has to climb from the boat, over the bridge and back into the boat before the entire group can continue! Sounds fun aye? Who says smart people have no life? I think they have a lot more life than students in singapore o.-

I think this is king's college

hehehe, love the punters ;)

I HAD A GO AT IT ;)

HAHAHAHA I feel like laughing whenever I see this...... but due to reasons pertaining to sensitive issues, I can't disclose anything here.

ahahaha it was damn fun! I was the best at controlling the direction (other than LY) but sadly I didn't have the strength to make the boat go fast!

hehe i think this was the photo Finian took of me using his camera :)

HAHAHA passionate couple making out along the river bank

I love how the locals just like to lie on the grass patch to do just about anything..... perhaps due to the lack of warmth from the sun, whenever there's sun, everyone would flock outside! Don't be mistaken, the grass there is dry (unlike in sg) and the weather is cooling, perfect for chilling in the great outdoors!

Photoception

YI had a go too.......

WHOOHOOO HOT STUFFS ;)

SEE even Finian agrees

another one ;)

This pair of ducks kept following us throughout our entire trip down the river!

I THINK this is the LKY bridge.... not too sure though!

LY chilling like a boss even though we were so close to banging the river bank!!

HAHAHA well at that moment, the punter was............ ;P

When stuck, just camwhore :P

Judging by how AWESOME we were at controlling the boat, LY decided to take over (or we will never reach the shores) HAHAHA

YAY WE MADE IT!! I would love to do it again one day :)

LY was explaining about some historical facts about the town but the rest of the boys only had their eyes glued on this girl!! "WAH MELONS!!" exclaimed one of them as this girl bounced down the slope

We went to visit LY's college! Their colleges are a bit like halls in NUS just that they have classes in the college too. I think tutorials are conducted in colleges while lectures are conducted in the main campus with people from other colleges.

omg i would love to study in this environment!!

Pigeon holes/letter holes

Every college has their own chapel

This is the dude responsible for ur taxes! he was the one who invented the modern taxation system!

ahhhh can you believe this is part of their school? SO PRETTY!!!!

See what I mean? people just love lying on the grass patch! Oh but not all grass patches can be laid on! They really value their quality carpet grass a lot and would even expel their students if they walked on those restricted grass patches!

Typical english sport..... (I forgot the name of the game LOL)

here's what you need to impress!

Look at how well maintained the grass is!

This is the harry potter-ish dining hall! omg I would love to have meals here!!

YI sitting on the dean's chair?

Some supposedly main attraction of the town but I honestly do not see what's so interesting about it

King's college

DNA was discovered in Cambridge and the discoverers headed to the nearest bar to announce it!

This was the bar that they went and it's still there!

The prestigious trinity college

Legend has it that this is the exact tree that newton was sitting under when he discovered gravity as an apple fell

People love their handmade candies, especially fudges!

I bought a pack to try.... pretty good!

Cambridge was the place where many things you enjoy today were discovered

The electron was discovered here!

Because it was LY's bday, we all gathered at the local si chuan restaurant to help him celebrate! The food was really good! It's authentic I think? hahaha omg, I'm totally missing the 水煮鱼 and 口水鸡 *drools*

Cambridge is more beautiful than I expected because I honestly didn't really know about the hype on punting and how beautiful the river bank area is until I stepped foot on Cambridge soil! Seeing all those signboards depicting discoveries and inventions made me feel closer to what I've studied because it made me feel as if those people who discovered those things were actually real? I know it doesn't really make a lot of sense but I don't know how to put it in a better manner. It's like you're suddenly not just hearing about these people through your lecturer, you're actually standing at the exact same spot that they stood on many years ago? *geekiness*

Oh, one tip: get a friend who studies in cambridge to show you around because most colleges can't be accessed without a resident around.
